Dates for Suspension of Samfundet’s Liquor License Determined
Samfundet’s alcohol license will be suspended from, and including the 28th of March until the 10th of April. “This is lucky for an unlucky situation,” says managing director, Nora Røkaas Hermansen.
The reason for this suspension was an incident which occurred during UKA-11 in which an agent from the municipality observed an overly inebriated woman drink alcohol at Lyche. Despite the fact that the woman was clearly drunk, she was not shown out of the restaurant.
The municipality decided in February that the penalty for this breach in the rules for serving of alcohol would be a two week suspension of Samfundet’s liquor license. The deadline for contesting the decision lasted three weeks after the decision had been made, but Samfundet chose not to contest the decision.
“We have determined what actually took place and we agree that an infraction did occur. We believe that a penalty lasting two weeks was hard-nosed, but there were very clear signals indicating that the decision would not be overturned or changed if we had contested it,” says Samfundet’s managing director, Nora Røkaas Hermansen.
The municipality has determined the dates for the suspension. Hermansen is content with the dates, which include the Easter holidays.
“We were extremely fortunate. We’re closed for Easter anyway, so this was actually very lucky an unlucky situation. If we had chosen to contest the decision, and the case had been processed in July, we could have risked having our liquor license suspended at the start of the semester, which would have been much worse,” says Hermansen.
