Dragvoll to Change the Ventilation System During the Examination Period

In total, 14 old ventilation works in building 5 on the Dragvoll campus will be replaced by 4 modern ones. NTNU’s internal page reports that the dinner option at the SiT Café will be closed from the 21st of May to the 9th of August. The worst case is that students will need to bring pre-made food to Dragvoll during that period.

“One solution would be to prepare dinners somewhere else, and then transport them in to Dragvoll,” says Bjørn-Hemming Hammer, operational manager at SiT Café.

SiT will stick to normal operations, within the limits of reason, at both the Café Sito and SiT’s Kiosk. The details are not yet determined, but Hammer does not want the students to be disturbed by the renovations.

“The students will have the options. If we have to cut the electricity for certain periods certain services will be limited, but hopefully that won’t happen,” he says.

Hammer hopes that dinner service will be able to continue longer than previously estimated.

“If we can keep serving dinner until the beginning of June, when the examination period is almost over, most students won’t be affected,” he says.

No Convenient Time

In addition to SiT’s services, students will not be able to use lecture halls in building 5 when the work is in progress.

Project engineer, Randi Tiller, at NTNU’s Department of Property apologizes deeply for the inconvenience. When asked if there are no better alternatives than right in the middle of the examination period, she answers that planning has been meticulously thought out and that the work will be inconvenient no matter when it is completed.

“When else could we do it? There is no ideal time for maintenance work because it will affect someone or something no matter when it happens,” she says.

She points out that the system put into place will greatly improve the air quality, and that, together with other renovations in building 5,it will reduce the cold problems in the winter.
